Help stop email phishing fraud: How to recognize and report scam emails

by Robert Gillis 12/2006

Email / Internet fraud is rampant:
There are also various other email scams to verify your account (so-called “phishing” schemes):
Here are some addresses where you can forward bogus or fraud emails; the companies WILL investigate and DO work to shut down the sites and nab the offenders. Be sure to delete the email after you forward it; DO NOT RESPOND TO THE EMAIL; DO NOT "BAIT" THE SENDER AND DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS INSIDE THE EMAIL

(Be sure to forward the emails with [all header info - read more here])

  • Nigerian 419 Scam letter: Forward the email to 419fcd@usss.treas.gov, spam@uce.gov, scams@fraudwatchinternational.com
  • Lottery scams: scams@fraudwatchinternational.com
  • Paypal: Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com
  • eBay: Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com
  • Bank of America: Forward the email to abuse@bankofamerica.com
And forward ALL phishing emails to:
  • phishing-report@us-cert.gov
  • reportphishing@antiphishing.org

If the scam comes from one of the following ISPs, forward the email to them:
  • Yahoo!: abuse@yahoo.com
  • Hotmail: abuse@hotmail.com, report_spam@hotmail.com
  • Gmail: gmail-abuse@google.com
  • AOL: abuse@aol.com and tosreports@aol.com
  • MSN: abuse@msn.com
  • Earthlink: abuse@abuse.earthlink.net
  • Comcast: abuse@comcast.net

Every IP address has an owner. Visit http://www.arin.net/whois/ and look up what ISP owns that address. Reports generally get e-mailed to abuse@ that ISP.

When GillisPhotos.com was launched in early 2005, everything was created with a mix of Perl scripts to generate pieces of HTML code. Not rocket science, but adding galleries, new pages and photos was tedious and time consuming. Ktools Photostore proved to be a Godsend. With Ktools Photostore, customization is easy, updates and changes are a breeze, and adding photos and galleries is simple. In addition, Ktools Photostore has dozens of features designed specifically for photo sellers. Ktools Photostore allows us to concentrate on photography rather than coding and scripting. We HIGHLY recommend Ktools Photostore.   Click here to learn more.
