To the editor:
The last game of the World Cup planned for here in Foxboro was played on July 9, and we’ll now see “Boston Stadium” fade into memory as we get Gillette Stadium back along with a full season of Revolution, concerts, Pats pre-games, monster trucks, and more. You know, typical quiet summer here.
Sincere appreciation to everyone involved with public safety — police, fire, military, EMTs, state officials, and everyone who played a part in ensuring the games were safe for the attendees and town. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of traffic on the side streets and the lack of expected chaos, which I attribute to good planning and execution by the Town of Foxboro, along with every safety official who worked the events.
Also, kudos to our town select board for standing strong and ensuring the town was paid $8 million in advance for the needed security and other requirements. The select board members really protected Foxboro. We are grateful.
While final numbers, records, stories, and incident reports are not yet in — and there will be a lot of review of what went well and what did not in the current months — it seems right now like things went very well.
Hope everyone who attended the games enjoyed it. We loved the international “party vibe” (especially from Scotland!)
P.S. Scotland, come back anytime. Your sister state, Massachusetts, definitely had a good time hosting you here, and we will be sure to stock up on lots of extra beer. Like, all the beer that can be found.
Sincere thanks to all teams, but especially Scotland and the Tartan Army, for providing such a loving, happy distraction from the news and real events of Earth 2026.
Thank you all!
